Explaining the reconciliation of attributing taqwa to Allah Himself in some instances, to the Fire in others, and to the time of punishment in yet others

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : A person’s reliance on his agent is not like a person’s reliance on his Lord, because his reliance on his agent is reliance based on self-sufficiency, whereas his reliance on his Lord is reliance based on need, knowing that he is in need of Him and compelled to Him, yet he places his trust in Him (Mighty and Majestic). For this reason, he relies on his Lord and performs the causes through which his desired outcome is realized. "And likewise, turning back" Turning back to whom? To Allah. Returning to Allah alone. One never turns back to anyone other than Allah. Turning back is to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
"And likewise, turning back and taqwa"
Taqwa from whom do we guard ourselves? From Allah. But Allah (Mighty and Majestic) sometimes mentions taqwa as attributed to Him, sometimes as attributed to the punishment, sometimes as attributed to the abode of punishment, and sometimes as attributed to the time of punishment.
He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers. واتقوا النار التي أعدت للكافرين
[Ali 'Imran 3:131]
This is the place of punishment.
And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah واتقوا يوما ترجعون فيه إلى الله
[Al-Baqarah 2:281]
This is the time of punishment. And Allah mentions His taqwa frequently:
And guard yourselves, O you who possess intellect واتقون يا أولي الألباب
frequently. So if taqwa is for Allah, how is it valid to attribute taqwa to these? We say that these are from the actions and creation of Allah, and they are the place of His punishment or its time, so guarding against them is considered taqwa for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Good.
