The Difference Between a Servant’s Hope in Allah and His Hope in Others, and the Difference Between the Fear of Allah and the Fear of Creation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And he also says:
“And likewise, hope and the fear of the Most Merciful” Hope is also for Allah the Exalted and Majestic. A person may hope in other than Allah, but his hope in other than Allah is not like his hope in Allah, because his hope in Allah is a hope of worship and trust, whereas his hope in other than Allah is far less than that. Likewise, fear: a person may fear other than Allah, but the fear of worship is only for Allah
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son يا أيها الناس اتقوا ربكم واخشوا يوما لا يجزي والد عن ولده
[Luqman 31:33]
But the meaning is not that we should fear this person today as we fear Allah, meaning the fear of worship. And Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet:
And you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him وتخشى الناس والله أحق أن تخشاه
[Al-Ahzab 33:37]
And He said:
That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me إِنَّمَا ذَلِكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ يُخَوِّفُ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ فَلَا تَخَافُوهُمْ وَخَافُونِ
[Ali 'Imran 3:175]
And He said:
So do not fear the people but fear Me فلا تخشوا الناس واخشون
[Al-Ma'idah 5:44]
But a person finds a great difference between his fear of Allah and his fear of the servants of Allah. His fear of Allah is a fear of reverence, magnification, and drawing near, while his fear of other than Allah is a fear of dread and terror. Otherwise, there is no love or magnification in his heart for the one he fears, but only panic and terror. Yes, and Allah knows best.
