The Shaykh : Weeping out of fear of Allah is of this type, meaning it is caused by the fear of Allah. Fear (khashiyyah) is fear based on knowledge, as Allah the Exalted said:[Fatir 35:28] It is also based on the greatness of the one feared, due to His greatness and the status of the person. As for fear that is not based on knowledge, it is called fear (khawf) but not fear (khashiyyah). Furthermore, fear may not stem from magnifying the one feared, but rather from the weakness of the one who fears. For example, a young boy fears an older boy; this fear is not called khashiyyah, because the fear arose in him due to his weakness in the face of the other, whereas the one he fears is actually weak. So we say that khashiyyah is fear, what is it? It is fear based on knowledge, and it arises from the greatness of the one feared.
