Is the Palestinian Intifada called jihad? What is obligatory for us toward them? And is it better to prepare for jihad or what?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Now, what is happening in the West Bank and Gaza, the truth is, people are rising up against the occupier in all their orientations, Islamic and non-Islamic, to the point that there are even communist parties.

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner : Their creed is disbelief in Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And we know that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) does not accept any deed unless it is sincere to Him and in His path.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : But the general concept has become, for everyone now, that what is happening there, even defending the land and liberating it and the like, is a type of jihad, regardless of people's creedal connection to the creed. And here, between the truth, we feel many times that we have a role, because the land is Muslim land, and it is not permissible, truly, to be lax about it. It is not permissible, and it is not permissible, even from the standpoint of the weakest of faith, to accept those who negotiate over it or make peace regarding it and the like. So that the matter may be pure for Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), we, in our capacity as Muslims, and in this country which is separated from the occupier by obstacles, some natural, some political, some due to the lack of preparation, and some due to lack of ability and capacity—and this is what we were discussing as we were coming down, truly, what can our role be at this stage? This is one. Two, we return to the question: how did it start? Now everyone wants to liberate the land, communist, believer, disbeliever, no one says that this is for Allah, and no one says that it is jihad in the path of Allah, but that the land is for the land one day.

Another questioner : ... .

The questioner : I don't know, by Allah... or consider this: when you see that the ruling of the Shari'ah is obligatory to follow in this matter.

The Shaykh : It seems to me that what I heard can be divided into two parts: a part concerning the action of those who confront the disbelievers who have seized the land, and a part concerning us and what is obligatory for us to help them. As for the first part, my answer, which I believe, is that this Intifada, if it stems from sincere individuals in those lands who are Muslims, it will not benefit them at all, let alone if the Intifada does not stem from them. And this matter, in my belief, is clear to every person of intellect and sound mind. And every day, with great regret, we hear of killings...
The Islamic governments have the obligation of preparation and assistance—look at the dirt that is in the water, what is it—.

The questioner : This is from the tree.

The Shaykh : You treated it like a fly, but we don't know if your finger is clean or not!

The questioner : It is clean, and I covered it all too.

Another questioner : They stopped drinking.

The Shaykh : If the Islamic states, or at least the Arab ones surrounding the land, do not fulfill the obligation of complete and total assistance, then I believe that what is called the Intifada will return to its opposite, which is the Intifada of the dead. If we leave this aspect and take the other aspect, which is what we can do and what we are tasked with, I believe that we must help them to remain alive, meaning, if the ruling Jewish authorities try to cut off their provisions of food and drink, then at least we should help them in this aspect, if possible, so that they remain in their lives. And it is sufficient for them, regarding what is lost of their lives due to the killing of their enemies, as for more than that, the matter does not need clarification, for it is not possible for the individual Muslims surrounding these lands to do anything without the permission of the rulers and those who supervise and hold the power and ability. So what is upon us is only to realize the fundamental principle in everything, including what we are in, which is His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
fear Allah as much as you are able اتقوا الله ما استطعتم
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
This is what I have as an answer to this question.

The questioner : If I understand.

The Shaykh: Yes.
