Dialogue with the Shaykh regarding thanking Allah (Mighty and Majestic) through action, not just words.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: That is, we thank Allah night and day, but it does not suffice for His bounty, not even by the blink of an eye. So perhaps this matter was with you, and with your supplication, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) removed it from you.

The Shaykh: Everything is possible, but it requires praise and gratitude.

The questioner: So these matters, first of all, Shaykh, follow new paths. First, remove the television from your home. Second, although I am pleased that you stopped frequenting the banks, there is still something you must do: you must put your money in the bank now, in Ceylon.

The Shaykh: I do not count.

The questioner: Third, one who attends the gatherings of knowledge and sees, for example, Hasan, the brother of 'Aziz, and many of the young men.

The Shaykh: Those who have left all the sects.

The questioner: Shaykh, these are the ones who work with Khalid Hijazi, like the twins, what Allah willed, it is a good thing. I mean, do not come with me every time; rather, between one period and another, maintain that you attend the gatherings of knowledge, because the gatherings of knowledge, Shaykh, it is not hidden from you, strengthen faith and make a person reflect upon Allah and reflect upon the creation of Allah, and reflect on why Allah created him.

The Shaykh: (Glorified and Exalted is He), truly.

The questioner: That is, he does not fall short in this; Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is capable of doing everything.

The Shaykh : Glorified is He.

The questioner : Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh: So our Lord says, regarding our master Dawud (peace be upon him), and as you know, he is a prophet among the prophets,
Work, O family of David, in gratitude. اعْمَلُوا آلَ دَاوُودَ شُكْرًا
[Saba 34:13]
As for "Praise be to Allah" and "Thanks be to Allah," that is not sufficient. Therefore, the Muslim should seize the hours and opportunities of guidance and spiritual awakening that a person sometimes feels, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an example of the believer, that he is like a grain of wheat that sometimes leans and sometimes stands straight, whereas the hypocrite is like a cedar tree that grows, then a storm comes and blows it away. So there is no harm if the Muslim sometimes errs with Allah, because he is not protected from sin, but it is not befitting for him to always hold his head high like a cedar tree and be distant from the mindfulness of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but rather
Work, O family of David, in gratitude. اعْمَلُوا آلَ دَاوُودَ شُكْرًا
[Saba 34:13]
, and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say
We, the prophets, are the most severely tried of people, then the next, then the next, and a believer is tried according to the magnitude of his faith نحن معاشر الأنبياء أشد الناس بلاء، ثم الأمثل فالأمثل، والمؤن يبتلى على قدر دينه
meaning that the closer the believer is to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), the more severe the trial becomes for him. And trials are of various types: some people are tried in their bodies, some in their thoughts, some in their knowledge, some in their morals, they are accused of all kinds of accusations. For example: I and your brother are living together, IThe Shaykh: the elder, I did not escape being accused of sodomy, being accused of great and very great things, whereas what about our companion, who is a young man, he was not accused of this accusation. So every person has what? A type of trial, until our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) said
to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful لِيَبْلُوَنِي أَأَشْكُرُ أَمْ أَكْفُرُ
[An-Naml 27:40]
. Therefore, if the Muslim is tried with a trial and then is patient with it and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) grants him well-being, he must thank Allah (Mighty and Majestic) as we mentioned, not with his tongue only, but with his action as in the previous verse
Work, O family of David, in gratitude. اعْمَلُوا آلَ دَاوُودَ شُكْرًا
[Saba 34:13]
. Therefore, among the practical gratitude is that the Muslim stops his disobedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), like this stubbornness and persistence. A foot may slip for a person, and he looks at a foreign woman, for example, and stares at her and confirms his gaze at her, he is not living this life like this and like this. But if he always deals with riba (usury or interest) and always and always lives his life, when this life rebounds on him and rebounds on his wife, rebounds on his children and his home. Warning from him (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this meaning, he said: Every piece of flesh that grew from illicit gain, the Fire is more deserving of it. Grew from illicit gain, meaning from what is forbidden, the Fire is more deserving of it. So these children who live from the earnings of what is forbidden, it is feared that this forbidden food will affect their behavior and their morals.
