He, Mighty and Majestic, said: [An-Nisa 4:160] From these good things, the fats were forbidden to the Jews. The Jew would slaughter the sheep, the fat, plump, fatty ram, so the fat was forbidden to him; he would throw it on the ground. This is how Allah, Mighty and Majestic, burdened them and made it their worship. Why? He said in the verse: [An-Nisa 4:160] Did the Jews have the patience to endure this new prohibition? They were forbidden to benefit from the fats. They did not have patience, just as they did not have patience to refrain from benefiting from hunting on the Sabbath, which they restricted to... So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed them from this aspect as well: Sahih Muslim 1582a But did they eat it as fat? No, they deceived [the ruling] just as they deceived regarding the hunting of fish. What did they do? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is, they melted it, placed these fats in pots, and lit a fire underneath them, so it melted and flowed and took a new form. So in their opinion, this form changed the ruling. They rendered it into tallow, then sold it and ate its price. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Have Muslims fallen into such deception and such transgression? How much of that there is.
