Is it said in the tashahhud, "Peace be upon the Prophet," or "Peace be upon you, O Prophet"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : How is this, when Imam Malik narrated in al-Muwatta, and Ibn Abi Shaybah in al-Musannaf, and 'Abd al-Razzaq that...

The Shaykh : Excuse me, before you finish reading, how is this?
Al-Halabi : With what?

The Shaykh : That is my intention. How is this? What is it?

The questioner : The hadith of Ibn Mas'ud regarding "Peace be upon the Prophet." The hadith of Ibn Mas'ud says, "When he passed away, we said, 'Peace be upon the Prophet.'" And that he heard 'Umar ibn al-Khattab on the minbar teaching the people the tashahhud, saying, "Say: The blessings are to Allah... until 'Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah.'" And that was after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and 'Umar taught them the tashahhud on the minbar.

The Shaykh : So we are turning the question from south to north. Do you say today, "Peace be upon you, O Prophet"? What do you say about the practice of Ibn Mas'ud? And before you rush to answer, I remind you that it is authentic in more than one narration from Ibn Mas'ud that when he taught his companions, such as 'Alqamah and others, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid and others, he taught them the tashahhud, saying
He would hold us accountable for the letter كان يأخذنا علينا الحرف
This is from the perspective regarding this recitation, which is the tashahhud. But if you recall with me the biography of Ibn Mas'ud, which may distinguish him from the biographies of the other Companions in the precision of his following of the people of innovation, and if you recall with me specifically the story that Imam al-Darami narrated in his Sunan, that the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), including Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, let alone the Tabi'un, used to come to Ibn Mas'ud every morning, waiting for him to come out to the mosque. And here is a pause: why did they do this? Because of their eagerness to receive knowledge from this noble Companion, whom the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) described with
Whoever loves to read the Qur'an fresh as it was revealed, let him read it according to the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud من أحب أن يقرأ القرآن عضا طريا كما أنزل فليقرأه على قراءة ابن مسعود
and many, many hadiths. So they knew the worth of this noble Companion, and they would come to his house waiting for him to come out, hoping to benefit from him, between the house and the mosque.
