The Shaykh’s warning regarding the issue of responding to the sneezer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, I wish to mention, and the reminder benefits the believers, that responding to the sneezer is not a collective obligation, but rather an individual obligation, contrary to [what is commonly held].

The questioner : You just suggested to me, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : I suggested that I would ask you now, what do the scholars say?

The questioner : They say that it is

The Shaykh : a collective obligation.

The questioner : A collective obligation.

The Shaykh : This is it. So why do they say it is a collective obligation? They read it this way:
The rights of a Muslim over another Muslim are five: if you meet him, greet him with the salam... حق المسلم على المسلم خمس إذا لقيته فسلم عليه ...
and so on. If one is ill, if one dies, these are collective obligations. But they did not know the explicit text:
it is a right due from every one who hears him حق على كل من سمعه أن يشمته
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2747Sahih (Darussalam)
This is a hadith in "Sahih al-Bukhari." So why do they not act upon it? Because they do not act upon the Sunnah; they act upon the school of jurisprudence, and few of them act upon the Sunnah. Now, these noble, pious scholars are engaged in education, which is another problem. They educate within the limits of their school of jurisprudence. So the obligatory duty is very great and very broad. We ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to bless this Muslim community and to bring forth from it scholars who are based on the Book and the Sunnah, who have trained themselves, above all else, on the Book and the Sunnah, and who have trained their dependents and those who seek refuge in them or are around them, and then those who connect with them or whom they connect with, to the extent that it is facilitated for them, as I mentioned earlier. And Allah is the Helper, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah.
