What is the meaning of the word al-'athananin in the hadith of Abu Umamah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The hadith of Abu Umamah came with a meaning for the word when he said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews shave their forelocks and trim their beards," so he ordered them to shave their beards and trim their forelocks to differ from the People of the Book. I wanted the meaning of al-'athananin, and I found it in the books of language to mean the beginnings of a thing?

The Shaykh : Do they shave their beards?

The questioner : They shave their forelocks and trim their beards. He said,
Trim your forelocks, shave your beards, and differ from the People of the Book قصوا سبالكم وأعفوا عثانينكم وخالفوا أهل الكتاب
or as he said (peace and blessings be upon him) with this meaning. The hadith was narrated by Imam Ahmad.

The Shaykh : And is the hadith authentic?

The questioner : By Allah, it is my strong opinion that you verified it in al-Silsilah al-Sahihah.

The Shaykh : In Sahih al-Jami'?

The questioner : In al-Silsilah al-Sahihah.

The Shaykh : Do you remember its number? Which volume is it in, approximately?

The questioner : It is probably in the third, because my memory of it is distant.

The Shaykh : The matter needs to be checked, perhapsAbu Layla : he will contact me and take the answer, if Allah wills.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : And may He bless you.
