Exhortation to Reflect on the Noble Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And I, and I, and I exhort the youth, especially, and others as well, to understand the Book of Allah, not just to read it as an act of worship by reciting it only. Allah says in His Book:
A Book We have revealed to you, blessed كتاب أنزلنا إليك مبارك
What is it?
that they might reflect upon its verses and that those ليدبروا آياته وليتذكر
[Sad 38:29]
that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. ليدبروا آياته وليتذكر أولو الألباب
[Sad 38:29]
It is necessary to reflect, and reflect, and understand the meaning.
And that those of understanding may remember وليذكر أولو الألباب
So that they may be admonished by it. For this reason, those who used to teach the people the Qur'an from among the Companions did not go beyond ten verses of the Book of Allah until they learned them and the knowledge and practice contained in them. But, unfortunately, now you come to a full chapter in the university and say: "Come, explain this verse to me," and you hardly find one of them who can explain it. This is a deficiency. If we are eager to explain the hadiths reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), why do we not strive to explain the words of Allah? This is more deserving and greater. And the person, glory be to Allah, ask one who has tried: whenever he reflects on the Book of Allah, meanings become clear to him that he did not know before.
then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]. فمن اتبع هداي فلا يضل ولا يشقى
[Taha 20:123]
Try and you will find, try and you will find. In the Qur'an, in the Qur'an, is the solution to everything. Anything that puzzles you, go to the Qur'an, right? The evidence:
And We have sent down to you the Book ونزلنا عليك الكتاب
[An-Nahl 16:89]
What is it?
as clarification for all things تبيانا لكل شيء
[An-Nahl 16:89]
But sometimes the explanation in the Qur'an is original, and sometimes the explanation in the Qur'an is by reference to what? To the Sunnah. Sometimes the matter is clear in the Qur'an.
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles يا أيها الذين آمنوا إذا قمتم إلى الصلاة فاغسلوا وجوهكم وأيديكم إلى المرافق وامسحوا برؤوسكم وأرجلكم إلى الكعبين
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
Is this clear or not clear? Clear, it does not need explanation. But you come to
For those who do good, the good and more للذين أحسنى الحسنى وزيادة
This addition, we do not know its meaning until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained it. But no one reflects on the Qur'an without finding in it great knowledge that he does not find in anything else. If you come to grammar, you find examples. If you come to rhetoric, you find examples. If you come to eloquence, you find examples. If you come to creed, you find examples. In jurisprudence, you find examples. In everything. They said that some of the scholars, the Muslim scholars, gathered in a restaurant in Europe, and with them was a Christian in the same restaurant, but they were not at the same table, it seems. The Christian came challenging and said: "Your book was revealed as an explanation of everything, so how was this dish made? How was this news made? How was this meat made?" That was all he cared about, his stomach. He wanted the Qur'an to be what? A cookbook. How did this man make it? This scholar was intelligent; Allah the Exalted gave him intelligence, and, if Allah wills, He gave him piety as well. The scholar said: "O owner of the restaurant, come, how did you make this? How did you make this?" He said: "I did such and such and such," and he mentioned the recipe exactly. He said: "This is how it came in the Qur'an, this is how it came in the Qur'an." The Christian was amazed: "How did it come in the Qur'an? From the beginning of al-Fatihah to the end of al-Nas, we do not find this." He said: "It is in the Qur'an. Allah said:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know. فاسألوا أهل الذكر إن كنتم لا تعلمون
[An-Nahl 16:43]
This verse, even if it is not specifically about this issue, contains an indication that for anything you do not know, ask the people of knowledge about it. Ask the people of knowledge about it. If I said, for example, the grammatical case of
It is You we worship and You we ask for help. إياك نعبد وإياك نستعين
[Al-Fatihah 1:5]
What is its grammatical case? I say it is in the Qur'an or not? It is in the Qur'an. Based on that, after the prayer, if Allah wills, questions. If Allah wills, after the prayer there will be questions. After the adhan, there are microphones, there are microphones.
The student: Yes, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Okay, let us continue. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad. O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the intercession and the virtue, and raise him to the praised station that You promised him. Indeed, You do not break Your promise. O Allah, I ask You for the causes of Your mercy.
