The Shaykh : Among the characteristics of this blessed month is that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) revealed the Qur'an in it. The Qur'an is the noblest book revealed to the noblest prophet. The noblest of the prophets is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). I ask Allah the Exalted to make us and you among his followers, outwardly and inwardly. The noblest of the prophets is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the noblest of the books is the Qur'an. Look at what Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) mentioned regarding the revelation of the Torah and the Gospel. He said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:48] "Al-Muhaymin" means the One who has authority and control over the previous books; He judges them and they do not judge Him. Therefore, whatever in the previous books contradicts the Qur'an is abrogated by the Qur'an. This is the Qur'an by which the Muslims opened up the east and west of the earth. Before the Qur'an was revealed to them, the Muslims were an ignorant nation, for they were ignorant Arabs with no book. Then Allah bestowed upon them the revelation of the Book, so they took it upon themselves, submitted to it, obeyed it, and by it they conquered the east and west of the earth. Who would believe that a man from the Arabs would be brought the treasuries of the earth, its east and its west, and be brought the crown of Kisra, carried from the capital of Persia to the capital of Islam, al-Mada'in? Al-Mada'in was the capital of Persia, and the Muslims conquered it during the time of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). As the historians said, the crown of Kisra was brought to him carried on two camels. The crown is what the king places on his head like a dome. It was adorned with gold, silver, and jewels, and every precious stone, as they say. It was brought carried to whom? To 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), from the capital of Persia to the capital of Islam. Who would believe this? And by what did the Muslims attain this? By following the Noble Qur'an and taking it upon themselves in belief, action, conduct, and methodology. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:185] But I ask you, my brothers, is the purpose of the Qur'an to worship Allah by reciting it? Or to worship Allah by reciting it and acting upon it outwardly and inwardly? Yes, the first and not the second? The second. This evidence is necessary. Listen, Allah the Exalted said: [Sad 38:29] This is one. [Sad 38:29] "That they may reflect upon its verses, understand them, and know their meaning, and that those of understanding may remember, and that those with intellects may be admonished by what is in it." For this reason, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not move on from ten verses until they learned them and the knowledge and action contained in them.
