Explaining the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) need and poverty in the early days of his mission
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah (Mighty and Majestic) gave him a great deal of wealth, but in the early days of his mission, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not find money; two or three months would pass without a fire being lit in his house. It was asked of Aisha, “What was your food?” She said: . Two or three months would pass without a fire being lit in his house, (peace and blessings be upon him). A man would be brought to him to be prayed over, and he would ask, “Does he have a debt?” If they said yes, he would ask, “Is there an estate to pay it?” If they said no, he would say, “It is settled; I will not pray over him. You pray over him.” Why? Because the prayer of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is an intercession; his prayer over the deceased is an intercession. And for one who has a debt, intercession is of no benefit. So he would disclaim it, or he would delay praying over him, saying, “Pray over your companion.” One day, a man from the Ansar was brought to him. He took a few steps forward to pray over him, then asked, “Does he have a debt?” They said, “Yes, he has two dinars.” He said: and left without praying. Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward and said, “O Messenger of Allah, the two dinars are on me.” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ? He said, “Yes, I guarantee it, and the deceased is free of it.” So he stepped forward and prayed. When Allah opened things up for him and wealth became abundant with him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: أنا أولى بالمؤمنين من أنفسهم تحقيقا لقوله تعالى : النبي أولى بالمؤمنين من أنفسهم من ترك دينا فعلي ومن ترك ضياعا أو مالا فلورثته I am more worthy of the believers than themselves, in realization of His saying, the Exalted: The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves. Whoever leaves a debt, it is upon me; and whoever leaves wealth, it is for his heirs So he began to pay off debts himself, (peace and blessings be upon him), when Allah opened things up for him. All of this falls under the saying of the Exalted: [Ad-Duhaa 93:5].
