The Meaning of the Statement of Allah the Exalted: "And if Allah were to hasten for the people the evil as they hasten for the good, their term would have been determined for them."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That is,
And if Allah was to hasten for the people the evil [they invoke] as He hastens for them the good, their term would have been ended for them لو يعجل الله الشر للناس استعجالهم بالخير لقضي إليهم أجلهم
[Yunus 10:11]
meaning that people are falling short; they rush toward evil and are slow in doing good. If Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) had hastened the evil for them as they hasten for the good, they would have perished. But He (Mighty and Majestic) is forbearing; He is patient with the servants and gives them respite, as Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *al-Nuniyyah*:
"And He is the Forbearing, so He does not hasten His servant *** with punishment, so that he may repent from his disobedience".
And he (may Allah have mercy on him) spoke the truth. If Allah were to take people to account for what they have earned, He would not have left on its back any living creature. Therefore, He said:
their term would have been ended for them. But We leave the ones who do not expect the meeting with Us, in their transgression, wandering blindly لقضي إليهم أجلهم فنذر الذين لا يرجون لقاءنا في طغيانهم يعمهون
[Yunus 10:11]
