The meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And the sun and its brightness," and the clarification of the prohibition of swearing by created things, with evidence
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The first surah Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, swore by the sun because it is among the signs of Allah the Exalted, as we previously explained in this gathering before this lesson. He swore by it even though it is one of the created things. Swearing by created things is forbidden for us. It is not permissible for a person to swear by any created thing, not even by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); it is not permissible to swear by him. So it is not permissible to say, "By the Prophet of Allah, so-and-so was such and such." This is forbidden and is a form of shirk (associating partners with Allah). It is also not permissible to swear by the Ka'bah, the House of Allah. So it is not permissible to say, "By the Ka'bah, so-and-so was such and such." It is not permissible to swear by the sky, the earth, the stars, or anything else. The evidence for this is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih al-Bukhari 2679. And he said: Riyad as-Salihin 1711. But is it permissible for a person to swear by his country? Answer me. By his country?
The student: It is not permissible.
The Shaykh : It is not permissible. Is it permissible to swear by his Arabness? It is not permissible. Is it permissible to swear by his nation? It is not permissible.
And the sun and its brightness
والشمس وضحاهاWhoever has to take an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent.
من كان حالفا فليحلف بالله أو ليصمتHe who swears by anyone or anything other than Allah, has indeed committed an act of Kufr or Shirk
من حلف بغير الله فقد كفر أو أشركThe student: It is not permissible.
The Shaykh : It is not permissible. Is it permissible to swear by his Arabness? It is not permissible. Is it permissible to swear by his nation? It is not permissible.
