Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The Last Hour would not come until fire emits from the earth of Hijaz which would illuminate the necks of the camels of the Busra. لا تقوم الساعة حتى تخرج نار من أرض الحجاز تضيء أعناق الإبل ببصرى
Sahih Muslim 2902
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

The Shaykh : This is also one of the signs of the Hour: the emergence of a fire from the land of Hijaz. It is a great fire that illuminates the necks of the camels at Basra. Basra is a village in the Levant. Imagine now a fire emerging in the land of Hijaz that illuminates the necks of the camels in the Levant; therefore, it is a great, brightly illuminating fire. Is it a high fire or not high?
The student: High.

The Shaykh : High, and it must necessarily have a great height to reach the Levant. This fire occurred in the Prophet’s city (Madinah). When it occurred, it emerged from the earth, throwing lava and flowing like a river flows on the ground, until the people of Madinah were shaken and panicked, weeping and taking refuge in the Prophet’s mosque (peace and blessings be upon him). It remained for days, and the people were in distress and sorrow, hearing nothing but the sounds of the lava and seeing nothing but the great fires that illuminated the necks of the camels at Basra. What the Messenger (may Allah’s prayer and peace be upon him) mentioned has ended in its time. Whoever wishes to learn about the news of this fire should refer to the book al-Bidaya wa al-Nihaya by Ibn Kathir. Yes.
