After eating, I washed my hands with scented soap while in the state of ihram for performing 'Umrah, and I was not aware of it. Is there a sin on me, knowing that I did not know the ruling before that?

The questioner : May Allah grant you success, he saysThe questioner : After eating, I washed my hands with scented soap while in the state of ihram for performing 'Umrah, and I was not aware of it. Is there a sin on me, knowing that I did not know the ruling before that?

The Shaykh : This question requires two things in the answer: First, is scented soap considered from the perfume that is forbidden for the one in ihram? Answer!
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Is it perfume, or does it have a pleasant scent?
The student: It has a scent.

The Shaykh : Like the scent of apples, for example, or mint? It appears to me that this type is not considered perfume. But if we assume it is perfume and a person uses it thinking there is no harm in it, then he owes nothing. The scholars have mentioned a useful rule: if a person does something forbidden while ignorant of it, there is no sin on him, and no expiation on him in matters where an expiation is required—pay attention, my brother—due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. ربنا لا تؤاخذنا إن نسينا أو أخطأنا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
So Allah said: You have done it. So if we assume that this soap with which you cleaned yourself is perfume that is forbidden for the one in ihram, but he was ignorant of it, then he owes nothing, except that it is obligatory for him, once he knows, to wash his hands if any scent remains on them.
