The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "Your companion has not erred, nor has he gone astray."
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :[An-Najm 53:1-2] This is what is sworn upon, namely the negation of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) error and deviation. So what is the difference between error (dhalal) and deviation (ghay)? The difference is that error due to ignorance is dhalal, and error due to knowledge is ghay. This is the difference. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not err, nor did he speak out of ignorance regarding what he spoke of concerning the Mi'raj. And he did not deviate, meaning he did not intentionally (peace and blessings be upon him) speak in error. And regarding His saying: [An-Najm 53:2] Why was the phrase not "Muhammad has not erred, nor has he deviated"? Because His saying "your companion" and attributing his companionship to them is like establishing the argument against them. It is as if He said: "Your companion, whom you know and know his truthfulness and know his trustworthiness." Indeed, they used to call the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in the beginning, before the revelation, "Al-Amin" (The Trustworthy). But after the revelation, he became a liar in their eyes.
