The Shaykh : Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammās, this man, my brothers, has a strange story. He was one of the orators of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and was a man with a loud, strong, and high-pitched voice. When Allah revealed this verse: [Al-Hujurat 49:2], the man stayed in his house, weeping night and day. Look at the fear of the Companions of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); he was weeping. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) missed him and asked about him. They said, “O Messenger of Allah, since this verse was revealed, he has been secluded in his house, his tears not drying up, weeping. Why? Because he had a loud voice and spoke in the presence of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), so he feared that he might be included in the verse. So he kept weeping (may Allah be pleased with him).” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Send a messenger to him” and said to him: Allah is the Greatest! The effects of fear of Allah are always safety; the effects of fear of Allah are always safety for a person. Thabit was afraid of the Fire, so the glad tidings came to him from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he would live a good life, be killed as a martyr, and enter Paradise. May Allah gather us with him in the Gardens of Pleasure. He lived a good life (may Allah be pleased with him) and was killed as a martyr at al-Yamamah in the campaign against Musaylimah the Liar. And we bear witness that he will enter Paradise by the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
