I gave a sum of money to my brothers standing at the gates of the Haram so that they would pay my zakah on time, and they informed me that the zakah would be paid outside

The questioner : May Allah reward you, he saysThe questioner : I gave a sum of money to my brothers standing in front of the gates of the Haram so that they would pay my zakah on time, and they informed me that the zakah would be paid outside the Kingdom. My family is in Jeddah, and I am here in i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque). Is this zakah sufficient or not?

The Shaykh : If it is possible for it to reach its recipients, meaning those who are entitled to it, within its proper time, then there is no harm. However, I do not know if it can reach them in this short period or not. If you are confident that these trustworthy people can deliver it to those outside the Kingdom before the time passes, then there is no harm. Nevertheless, we do not recommend that zakat al-fitr (the alms given at the end of Ramadan) be sent out of the town as long as there are poor people in the town; do not send it to others. If there are no poor people in your town, then look for the nearest town to you and send it to them. As for taking it far away, this is not permissible as long as there are people entitled to it in your town or in a town closer than the second one.
