Zakah and the amount whose value is not known each year
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 21717 )
Q3: I have a sum of money with one of my friends for the purpose of investing this money in trade. At the end of the first year, he calculated the profits for me and told me: "I have paid the zakah from your money." Is it permissible for him to pay the zakah on my money that he is working with on my behalf ? Knowing that he is a person who knows the limits of Allah and is a trustworthy person.
A3 : Zakah is an act of worship for Allah the Exalted, and intention is a condition for its validity. Therefore, the person who pays the obligatory zakah must have the intention when paying it. However, if you have authorized this person who paid the zakah on your money and given him permission to do so, and he paid it to its rightful recipient on your behalf, then that is permissible, and your liability is discharged by it. But if you did not authorize him to pay it, it does not suffice for you, and you are obligated to pay its equivalent. Your friend is liable for what he paid from your money without your permission. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
