The Definition of Riba Linguistically and in Islamic Law

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The chapter on riba (usury or interest) and currency exchange. Riba means increase. Riba is increase. Hence the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells فإذا أنزلنا عليها الماء اهتزت وربت
[Al-Hajj 22:5]
meaning it increased, because when mixed with water it swells and causes crops and grass to grow, thereby increasing. In Islamic law, it is an increase in specific items. That is to say, not every increase is riba; rather, riba exists only when the increase is between two ribawi items of the same type. Pay attention: between two ribawi items.
