The Shaykh : The third is riba (usury or interest). Riba is one of the principles of transactions. Its original ruling is prohibition. Its original ruling is prohibition because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: وأحل الله البيع وحرم الربا But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest [Al-Baqarah 2:275] Any transaction that contains riba, whether it is explicit or deceptive, is forbidden.
