The Shaykh : But here is a matter that many people ask about: if a person borrows to build his house from the Real Estate Development Fund and pays off each installment as it comes due, then dies with most of the price still remaining, does this deceased man suffer harm from the debt upon him, or does he not suffer harm? It appears that he does not suffer harm, as long as he has paid the installments that came due during his life. The remaining installments are secured by a pledge, which is what? The house. And the ones who are liable for the remaining installments are the heirs, because the house has passed to them and is under their responsibility. However, if this deceased man did not pay anything of the installments that came due and remained in his liability, then he suffers harm from this debt upon him. And it was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1078Hasan (Darussalam).
One buys a car on installment, a house on installment, and land on installment. The important thing is not to burden yourself with debt except in cases of dire necessity.
The believer's soul is suspended by his debt until it is settled for him.
