Question:
A man bought a car for his son on installment and was paying the installments monthly, then Allah took his soul, and a number of installments remained on him. Is his soul suspended by this debt, and does it fall upon his son?

Answer:
A man died owing two dinars and was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he would pray over him. At first, he did not pray over anyone who had a debt; he would say, "Pray over your companion." When this man was brought to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to be prayed over, he asked, "Does he have a debt?" They said, "Yes, two dinars." The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) stepped back, and one of the Companions said, "The two dinars are on me, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger (may Allah send blessings and peace upon him) stepped forward and prayed over him. The next day, he met this man and asked him, "What happened to the two dinars?" The man said, "The time has not yet passed, O Messenger of Allah." Then he met him on the second day and asked, "What happened to the two dinars?" He said, "I paid them off, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Now his skin has cooled." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The soul of the believer is suspended by his debt until it is paid off." Therefore, among the rights connected to the estate after preparing the deceased for burial is paying off the debts he owed.
