Is there a specific limit to the debt when a person who owes a debt gives charity, or is there not?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Many of the brothers ask about the issue of a person who owes a debt and gives charity: is there a specific limit to the debt, or is there not?

The Shaykh : No, it is not limited to a specific amount, because the debt might be a million, and he gives charity with a dirham. We say: do not give charity. If you give a dirham to the owner of the million, how much remains on you?
The student: A million minus a dirham.

The Shaykh : He still owes a million minus a riyal, and if he gives a second riyal, it is minus two riyals, and so on. As the common people say: "A drop with a drop makes a pool"
Yes, indeed.
But if we know that the owner of the large debt, such as the million, permits the debtor to give charity like a dirham, meaning a riyal or something similar, then we hope that there is no harm in this. Yes.
The student: There is a suggestion, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And he?
The student: One of the brothers suggests to your eminence that you dedicate one of the sessions this month, or part of it, to answering the cultural competition that was raised last year, knowing that we are eager to know the answer - the voice cut out -

The Shaykh : Knowing.
The student: Knowing that we are eager to know the answer.

The Shaykh : Last year?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Are the questions available?

The Shaykh : Last year, are they available?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : In any case, you are, if Allah wills, preparing a competition, but competitions are in the morning lesson, not this lesson, in the morning lesson.
