Giving charity with a debt on behalf of its owner when he is satisfied with it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 4892 )
Q: I submit my question to your eminence, so please issue a ruling for me, because I am a camel herder, and I went to Iraq with the camels, and I had a debt to three men: one owed a hundred riyals, the second thirty riyals, and the third twenty riyals. Then I returned from Iraq , but they were not there, and I searched for them for a year and did not find them. Please inform me how to handle this: should I give it in charity or eat it?
A: If the matter is as you described, and you do not know anyone who knows them, then give it in charity on their behalf. When you meet any one of them, inform him of what you did. If he approves of it, the reward of the charity is for him; otherwise, the reward of the charity is for you, and you pay him his right. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
