Is it permissible for a person who has a debt to give charity, and is there anyone who has prohibited it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible for a person who has a debt to give charity? And is there anyone who has prohibited it?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is not permissible for a person who has a debt to give charity, because repaying his debt is obligatory, and charity is recommended, and it is not permissible to prioritize the recommended over the obligatory.

The questioner : What about a person who has long-term loans, and he spends years paying off these loans?

The Shaykh : As for the one who has deferred loans and is confident that he will pay them when the due date arrives, there is no harm in his giving charity, and there is no harm in his performing Hajj with the money he has, because there is no harm to the creditor in this case, and because the creditor does not benefit from the money he has at the present time.
