It is reported in the hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. The questioner says: It is reported in the hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for. ماء زمزم لما شرب له
Sunan Ibn Majah 3062Hasan (Darussalam)
So, is it sufficient to have only the intention when drinking, or must one utter the supplication?

The Shaykh : It is not a condition to utter the supplication. Rather, if one intends to drink it to quench thirst or to satisfy hunger, that benefits him. Some scholars were lenient in this matter and said that if one intends it for understanding, he becomes understanding, and if he intends it for memorization, he becomes a memorizer. However, there is a point of consideration regarding this expansion, because the apparent meaning of his statement
for what purpose he drank it لما شرب له
is that if you drink it to ward off thirst, you will be quenched, and if you drink it to ward off hunger, you will be satisfied. Yes.
