Warning Against Division and Disagreement
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the social issue we have passed through, it is that Allah the Exalted and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) desire the Muslim community to be one community. So what passed in the recitation regarding the warning against division? Please proceed.

The Shaykh : Salama, this is not it. Yes.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : Well done, may Allah reward you.[Al-An'am 6:159] Every sect has a path. [Al-An'am 6:159] You are not of them in any way. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) means that you are free from them. [Al-An'am 6:159] This is clear evidence that it is obligatory for us, O Muslims, to be one sect upon the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), not to divide, so that this one is described as such and that one as such and this one as such, because this means failure and the loss of your strength, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Anfal 8:46]. It is truly regrettable that after the awakening that spread among the youth ten years ago, and people looked forward to good, Satan sowed discord among them and divided them into sects, and some became enemies to others. The true enemies of the Muslims and Islam were relieved. The people of atheism and the hypocrites said, "We have been spared, as long as the youth now called the youth of the awakening are quarreling among themselves, that is what we want." Therefore, the youth must be alert to this point and realize that they are slaughtering themselves with their own knives. It is obligatory to leave the talk and gossip, what is said about so-and-so and what is said about so-and-so. It is obligatory for us that loyalty and disavowal not be based on individuals. Every individual makes mistakes and hits the mark. It is obligatory that loyalty and disavowal be based on the religion of Allah. So whoever opposes the religion of Allah, we are free from him regarding what he said about the religion.
But despite that, do we let him continue as he is? No, it is obligatory that we discuss it with him, not openly exposing him and publishing that he is wrong, but with gentleness, wisdom, and secrecy. Perhaps he has knowledge that we do not have. We are not protected from error, and he is not protected from error. So it is necessary to review and retract what is between us until Islamic unity is restored. And if it happens that it is not clear to any one of us what his brother was upon, then Allah the Exalted does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. But it is not permissible for us to make this difference of opinion a cause for the hearts to differ, because that is the evil: that the hearts differ and become hostile. Otherwise, we know that disagreement occurred among the best of generations, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), but their hearts were one. They disagreed on whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw his Lord or did not see Him, and this is a doctrinal issue. They disagreed, but their hearts did not differ. And although the stronger position is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see his Lord in a waking state, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 56:104.
They also disagreed on other issues, such as their disagreement regarding prayer when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged them to go to Banu Qaynuqa and not to pray the 'Asr prayer except in Banu Qaynuqa. This was because Banu Qaynuqa, the last group of Jews who broke the treaty in Medina, supported the Confederates who fought the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or came to fight him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Confederates and placed his mark that the war had ended, Jibril came to him and ordered him to go to Banu Qaynuqa because they had broken the treaty. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged his Companions to do so and said, "Go to Banu Qaynuqa, and let no one of you pray the 'Asr prayer except in Banu Qaynuqa." So the time for 'Asr arrived. We ask the brother, are you there? Yes. Let us suppose you are with the Companions. The time for 'Asr arrived before they reached Banu Qaynuqa. Do they pray in the time, even if they have not reached Banu Qaynuqa, or do they wait until they reach Banu Qaynuqa, even if the time passes?

The Shaykh : He prays and then walks. Good, rest. Is there anyone among you who disagrees with him? Yes.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : Leave it, but do you agree or disagree?
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : Disagree, meaning if you delay the prayer until Banu Qaynuqa, even if the time passes?
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : If you agree, he says we pray and then walk, like that. Okay, rest. In any case, the Companions disagreed. Some said, "We pray and then walk," and some said, "We do not pray until we reach Banu Qaynuqa, even if the sun sets." There is no doubt that the one who was correct was the one who said, "We pray and then walk." But this disagreement in the 'Asr prayer, the best of the prayers, one of them prayed after the time and the other prayed in the time. One of them agreed with the apparent wordingSahih al-Bukhari 946 and the other opposed the apparent. And yet their hearts were one; their hearts did not differ. And so it should be for us when we disagree in opinion and discuss among ourselves, and it is not clear to any one of us that the truth is with his brother, for Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. But it is upon us that our hearts do not differ, so that the enemies do not rejoice over us. In any case, the unity of the Muslim community is an objective of the Shari'ah. And Allah has forbidden division in multiple verses, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden things that are a cause for division, such as buying over the sale of a Muslim, bidding over his bid, and proposing over his proposal, and the like. All this is so that the Muslim community does not divide. So I advise my brothers, especially the youth among them, to leave this partisanship and be one party. On what are you walking? On what? On the Shari'ah, on the Book and the Sunnah. And to leave the disagreement and quarreling, what is said about so-and-so and what is the creed of so-and-so. These are a nation that has passed and reached the One who does not wrong people in anything, and He is Allah (Mighty and Majestic). But it is upon us to ask what is our concern today and what is the need of our community for our unity, so that the enemies do not dominate us and stand there as spectators.

Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects
إن الذين فرقوا دينهم وكانوا شيعاIndeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah; then He will inform them about what they used to do.
