What is the interpretation of this verse: "And do not exchange My signs for a small price"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I ask for the interpretation of this noble verse:
And do not exchange My signs for a small price وَلا تَشْتَرُوا بِآيَاتِي ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا
[Al-Baqarah 2:41]
?

The Shaykh : The meaning of the noble verse is that among the people to whom Allah has granted knowledge of His signs, there are those who exchange a small price for these signs. That is, they show favoritism to people in the religion of Allah for the sake of this world, or they preserve their status and leadership for the sake of this world and abandon the religion of Allah. For example, a scholar may know that a certain matter is forbidden, but he does not say that it is forbidden because he fears that the common people will turn away from him and say that he is severe, or he fears that the ruler will deduct from his salary or remove him from his position because he said that it is forbidden. So he goes and says that it is lawful, thereby exchanging it for a small price, which is status among the common people or remaining in his position with the ruler. The important point is that the general meaning of the verse is that some people abandon the religion of Allah for something of the matters of this world.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
