The questioner : May Allah reward you. The questioner asks: Is it authentic that which is mentioned regarding the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning the virtue of one who sits in the mosque remembering Allah until the sun rises and then prays two rak'ahs? And if it is authentic, are the two rak'ahs prayed at home or in the mosque?

The Shaykh : Some scholars have weakened this hadith and stated that it is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). If it is authentic, the meaning is that one should pray it in his place of prayer. Is the intended meaning of "place of prayer" the place where he prayed the Fajr prayer, or is the intended meaning of "place of prayer" the entire mosque? The apparent meaning is the latter, that the entire mosque is intended. This is if the hadith is authentic. However, there is an authentic hadith in a different matter, which is that if a man performs wudu' in his home and perfects his wudu', then leaves his home for the mosque, and nothing takes him out except prayer, he does not take a step but that Allah raises him thereby a degree and removes from him thereby a sin. When he reaches the mosque and prays and sits waiting for the prayer, the angels pray for him as long as he is in his place of prayer. Is the intended meaning of "his place of prayer" the place where he prayed the greeting of the mosque, or is the intended meaning the entire mosque? The apparent meaning is the latter. Yes.
