What is the ruling on performing 'Umrah on behalf of a deceased person?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And there are properties for charity, and Abu Hurayrah was poor, and we find that the knowledge of Abu Hurayrah has now benefited the ummah (the Muslim community); you hardly see a man narrating hadiths without saying "and from Abu Hurayrah." Indeed, knowledge is more eloquent than singing, more eloquent than wealth, and more eloquent than kingship. Where are the kings? Answer: They have gone, and their good deeds have gone with them; they left nothing for the ummah except those who had knowledge and benefited people with their knowledge. Thirdly, what about
or a pious child, who prays for him أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Sahih Muslim 1631
Did he say that a righteous son comes to him with an 'Umrah? No, by Allah, he did not say that. If performing 'Umrah for the deceased were a required matter, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would not have denied it for us, and by Allah, he would have made it clear to us. He would have said, "Or a righteous son performs 'Umrah for him, or fasts for him, or performs Hajj for him, or something similar." He did not say that. Did this slip past the Messenger? Did it escape him (peace and blessings be upon him) that 'Umrah is an act of the deceased? It certainly did not escape him. Therefore, I urge my brothers to follow the path of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), not emotion. We all love to benefit our fathers and mothers after death, but by what path do we reach benefiting them? By what? By what came from the Prophet. Yes, by supplication, because this is what the Sunnah brought. Therefore, I say that even according to the opinion of many scholars that 'Umrah for the deceased, being a voluntary 'Umrah, benefits him, supplication is better than it. So do not burden yourself, my brother, with entering ihram (the consecrated state of pilgrimage), the fatigue, the cost, and the crowding of those who are performing tawaf (circumambulation of the Ka'bah) and sa'y (walking between al-Safa and al-Marwah) who are performing rites for themselves. Do not crowd them. Praise Allah, pray two rak'ahs (units of prayer), and strive in supplication in prostration for yourself and your children. This, by Allah, is more beneficial than 'Umrah; more beneficial, less troublesome, and more in accordance with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Be careful, my brothers. I have, praise be to Allah, told you a statement accompanied by what? By evidence. I did not say anything from myself. If I knew that 'Umrah for your parents was better than supplication, I would have told you, but I cannot, nor can anyone else, say that 'Umrah is better than supplication. And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
or a pious child, who prays for him أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Sahih Muslim 1631
Upon us, my brothers, is following the Sunnah. Upon us is following the path of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And if you search through the athar (reports) narrated from the Salaf (the earliest generations), do you find that the Salaf did not perform 'Umrah except that they performed it for their parents, as many of the common people now think? In fact, some of the common people in this month perform 'Umrah several times. The first 'Umrah is what? For himself. The second for his mother. The third for his father. The fourth for his grandmother. The fifth for his grandfather. The sixth for his uncle. The fourth for his aunt, and so on. He may perform 'Umrah every day and then say, "Praise be to Allah, I have benefited my dead every day."
Glory be to Allah. Is this from the practice of the Salaf? Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the Fatawa (scholarly legal rulings): "It is disliked to perform 'Umrah frequently and to repeat it consecutively between two 'Umrahs, by the consensus of the Salaf."
And Shaykh al-Islam is a man of vast knowledge and trustworthy in what he transmits. He has strength and trustworthiness; strength due to the breadth of his knowledge, and trustworthiness due to his reliability in transmission. He says that it is disliked to do it frequently and to repeat it consecutively. And Imam Ahmad, the imam of the people of the Sunnah and the community, said: "Do not perform 'Umrah except..." ... And on this basis, if one wipes, he is not blamed, but if he leaves it, that is safer. Now, let us ask: how many days does it take for hair to grow until it becomes black? Your hair, your hair?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : How does it start in a week and end... those who oppose the methodology of the Salaf. And therefore we say to the brothers, if they ask us, there are not two 'Umrahs in one journey. Yes.
We have finished, brother... here, that is enough, here, what is it?
Between them, so leaving off the wiping is better, but we do not blame the one who wiped.
My last question: I see some of you always have your hand in your beard like this. What is your opinion of this action? Yes.
I mean, personally, I think it is a habit and that it is not with us. Is my intuition correct? Yes.

The questioner : Mostly.

The Shaykh : Mostly. Then it was said to me that if a man stands and strokes his beard, the roots of the hair weaken, and if the roots of the hair weaken, it falls out and sheds. So guard your beard, my brother, and be present with your heart. And success is from Allah.
And Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and with Your praise. I testify that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You. And everyone stays in his place until the people take...

The questioner : Is there a lesson in the morning, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Friday morning, there is no lesson, there is no lesson.
