The questioner : I heard one of the imams making this supplication in the qunut of calamity, saying: "Our God, the honor of people has been violated and the children have been scattered." One of the common people said, "This is not valid because it is not a supplication?"

The Shaykh : This falls under the category of seeking nearness to Allah the Exalted by mentioning the state of the supplicant or the one for whom supplication is made. It is a means of attracting the mercy, favor, and kindness of Allah the Exalted. It is part of the prescribed means of seeking nearness in supplication, as Moses (peace be upon him) said:
My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."
[Al-Qasas 28:24]
And Zakariyya said:
He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy.
[Maryam 19:4]
. Yes.

The questioner : In the last paragraph of his question, he says, "The honorable Shaykh."
