Explanation of the Book of Ablution, Ghusl, Menstruation, and Tayammum-06a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Walid narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: I heard Jabir say:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit me while I was ill and unconscious, so he performed wudu and poured some of his wudu water over me, and I regained consciousness. I said: O Messenger of Allah, to whom does the inheritance belong? I am only being inherited from by my collaterals, so the verse of inheritance shares was revealed.
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 1:1033
.

The Shaykh : This chapter, al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "Chapter on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pouring his wudu water over an unconscious person". An unconscious person is one who has been overcome by fainting, and fainting means being covered, meaning his mind was covered by illness or something else.
Then he mentioned the hadith of Jabir:
that the Prophet (ﷺ) did wudoo’ أن النبي صلّى الله عليه وسلم توضأ وصب عليه من وضوئه
Musnad Ahmad 1351Hasan (Darussalam)
From this, it is derived that one should pour water over an unconscious person so that he may regain consciousness. This is a practiced matter, pouring water to bring about recovery, just as water is poured over a patient with a fever to cool him down, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding fever:
It is from the heat of Hellfire, so cool it with water. إنها من فيح جهنم فأبردوها بالماء
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 13:255
.
The strange thing is that we used to say how can cold water be poured on him when the water causes his skin to break out in a rash, but this has become the only treatment, one of the best treatments even now, despite the advancement of medicine. They use this simple treatment where nothing enters the body, meaning it is not pills or medications that might have side effects, but rather an external, tangible treatment that one endures. In any case, the patient with a fever will speak or be pained by the cold water, but let him endure it until the fever subsides.
The reason for this, and Allah knows best, is that the heat comes out from the interior and is on the surface, while the interior remains cold. This is why the patient with a fever experiences shivering, as if he is cold, because his interior is cold. So when cold water is poured on him, the heat descends to the lower parts and the coldness comes out from the lower parts, and the heat settles and the body becomes balanced.
In this hadith, there is also a reference to the inheritance of the collaterals. What are the collaterals? The collaterals are the lateral relatives, because the heirs by blood are: ancestors, descendants, and lateral relatives. So the lateral relatives are the collaterals, and the term is derived from the crown, and the crown is the thing that surrounds a thing, like the halo around the moon in winter days and the like. So based on this, we say the collaterals are the lateral relatives. Allah mentioned this in the Noble Qur'an, saying:
They ask you for a ruling يستفتونك
meaning regarding the collaterals
Say, "Allah gives you a ruling concerning one having neither descendants nor ascendants [as heirs]." If a man dies, leaving no child but [only] a sister, she will have half of what he left. And he inherits from her if she [dies and] has no child. قل الله يفتيكم في الكلالة إن امرئ هلك ليس له ولد وله أخت فلها نصف ما ترك وهو يرثها إن لم يكن لها ولد
[An-Nisa 4:176]
This scenario does not apply at all except to one who has no child and no father, because if he had a child or a father, the division would be different.
