The questioner : What is the ruling on a mother making a supplication against her children, and she says: “It is not from my heart”? I hope for your benefit, may you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : A mother making a supplication against her children is feared to be answered, and she should not habituate herself to making supplication against her children. Rather, what she should habituate herself to is making supplication for them, saying: “O my son, may Allah guide you, why did you do such and such? O my son, may Allah not empower [the enemy] against you, why did you empower [the enemy] against such and such?”

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : And similar words that benefit the child and do not harm her. When a person habituates himself to good and pleasant speech, he becomes accustomed to it and it becomes easy for him. But if he lets his tongue run free when angry, he will say things that he will regret afterwards.
So my advice to this mother is to strive with utmost effort to control her tongue and her speech, and not to habituate herself to such supplication. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This listener, Ahmad al-Qasim from Syria, says: May the Shaykh be respected.
