The questioner : A woman who is menstruating slept at the beginning of the night, and when she woke up at dawn she saw that she was pure, but she does not know when this purity occurred. Does she also have to make up the 'Isha' prayer if she woke up after the sun had risen, and does she pray Fajr or not, O honorable Shaykh?
The Shaykh : If a woman sleeps while she is menstruating and then wakes up while she is pure, and she does not know whether the purity occurred before or after the middle of the night, then it is not obligatory for her to make up the 'Isha' prayer, because the time for the 'Isha' prayer ends at the middle of the night. However, she must hasten and perform the full ritual bath so that she can pray Fajr in its time. It is not permissible for her to delay the full ritual bath until after the sun rises, as some ignorant women do. Rather, it is obligatory for her to hasten and perform the full ritual bath so that she can pray the prayer in its time. If she says, "I want to perform a full ritual bath that will make me clean," we say: Perform a full ritual bath in which you fulfill the obligation, and pray Fajr in its time. If it becomes morning, there is no blame on you if you perform a full ritual bath that cleanses you with soap or something else. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you. This is one of the listening brothers who is consulting you on this question, and he says, O honorable Shaykh.
