Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : That she is a committed girl, and she praises Allah for that for nearly a year. She says, but my heart is in constant change and fluctuation. Sometimes I feel strength in my faith and a turn toward prayer with humility and love for good, and sometimes this strength decreases and I feel hardness in my heart, so I do not remain in one state to the point that I have begun to feel fear for my religion and worry that I will return to how I was. I feel that my faith has begun to decrease gradually. Guide me, O honorable Shaykh, with what strengthens my faith, and pray for my guidance and steadfastness upon the truth. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : We ask Allah for guidance and steadfastness upon the truth for us and for her.

The questioner : O Allah, amen.

The Shaykh : Indeed, a human being is a human being.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : He changes according to what reaches his heart, what he sees with his eye, and what he hears with his ear. But the believer must ask Allah the Exalted for steadfastness always, and he must do the causes by which his faith is steadfast, such as frequently monitoring Allah Mighty and Majestic, and remembering Him with the heart, tongue, and limbs, and reading the Qur'an with reflection and contemplation. For reading the Qur'an in this manner softens the heart and increases its faith. Likewise, he should increase his association with the people of good and righteousness who help him when he is weak and remind him when he forgets.
And the important thing is that he should ask Allah the Exalted for steadfastness always, such as saying:
O Allah, O Turner of hearts, make my heart steadfast upon Your religion. O Allah, O Turner of hearts, turn my heart toward Your obedience. اللهم يا مقلب القلوب ثبت قلبي على دينك اللهم يا مصرف القلوب صرف قلبي إلى طاعتك
and the like of these supplications. And he will find good, if Allah wills. But he should not be lazy, nor despair of the mercy of Allah, nor look at what is behind him of what he was upon of disobedience to Allah Mighty and Majestic. Rather, he should look at what is before him of obedience, good, and the great reward for whoever obeys Allah.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
