The Meaning of the Poet's Words: "The Messengers are in absolute agreement on the *** principles of religion, not on the laws of faith. Each has a law and a path, and this *** is in the commands, not in tawhid (the oneness of Allah), so understand."

The Shaykh :"The Messengers are in absolute agreement on the *** principles of religion, not on the laws of faith"
The principles of religion without which worship is not complete are agreed upon by them. As for the laws and the path by which people proceed in their worship, in terms of manner, number, or the like, the Messengers differ in these, as Allah the Exalted said in Surat al-Ma'idah, which is the last of what was revealed from the last of what was revealed: He said
To each of you We prescribed a law and a method لكل جعلنا منكم شرعة ومنهاجا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:48]
. Good, He said.
"Each has a law and a path, and this *** is in the commands, not in tawhid (the oneness of Allah)"
This is a great benefit. Their difference is in what is commanded, not in what is reported. As for tawhid (the oneness of Allah), they will not differ. This means that some are commanded to do something, while others are commanded to do the opposite; something is made lawful for one and forbidden for another. Isa (Jesus) said to the Children of Israel:
to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you ولأحل لكم بعض الذي حرم عليكم
[Ali 'Imran 3:50]
. He said.
"*** so understand these two"
"These two" refers to the principles and the branches, or if you wish, say the reports and the commands. The reports are agreed upon, and they are the six principles of faith, but the commands differ. Good, He said.
"So the religion in tawhid (the oneness of Allah) is one religion *** no two of them differed on it"
"The religion of the One who chose it for His servants *** and for Himself He is the standard of the religions"
This means that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) chooses the religion for the servants according to what is suitable for them, and this is in the laws and the path. As for the principle, which is the tawhid (the oneness of Allah) of Allah, it is one.
