Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And look at the statement of Ibn 'Abbas regarding the interpretation of *istiwa'* if you are one of knowledge"
For he said, may Allah be pleased with him, "He rose above the Throne," meaning He exalted Himself above the Throne and elevated Himself. And Ibn 'Abbas, as we know, is the scholar of the Ummah and the interpreter of the Qur'an.
"And look at his companions after him, such as Mujahid"
He was his most intimate companion in the knowledge of tafsir, to the extent that he recited the Qur'an to him from its beginning to its end, stopping at every verse and asking him about its meaning.
"And Muqatil, two scholars" meaning they are two scholars.
"And look at al-Kalbi also, and the statement that he made without any denial"
"And likewise Rafi', the most distinguished of the Tabi'un, that al-Riyahi of great status"
"Like a companion to whom he imparted"
That is, to Rafi', "his knowledge"
It is also permissible to say Rafi' imparted his knowledge to him.
"So for that reason, two did not differ over him"
Meaning the scholars agreed that he, may Allah have mercy on him, was of great status, vast in knowledge, and extensive in his insight.
