Explanation of Ibn al-Qayyim's Alfiyyah-31a
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said: "This, while we say that they are alive, *** but for us it is like the life of those with bodies
and the dust is beneath them and above their heads *** and from the characteristics, then from the oaths
Like what you have said, may Allah protect us *** from lies and from slander"
Meaning that we say they are alive, but do we say that they are like our life? "And the dust is beneath them and above their heads *** and from the characteristics, then from the oaths
Like what you have said ***" Because these people say that they are alive like the life of what? Like the life of this world? So we say they are alive, but not like the life of this world
"May Allah protect us *** from lies and from slander
Rather, with their Lord, the Exalted, it is like what *** He said about the martyrs in the Qur'an"
All of this is intended to refute them, where he said at the beginning of the speech that it follows from their statement that the messengers in their graves are not messengers. Why? They said that life is an attribute of the body, and it is known that there is no message except with life. So if life is an attribute and is lost by death, what follows from that? The loss of the message. They rejected this and said that the prophets are alive, that the prophets are alive. So we said to them: They are alive, but not like the life of this world; rather, it is a life in the barzakh (the interval between death and resurrection). And on this basis, you cannot repel what we said about your obligation regarding the invalidation of the message by the death of the messenger, because the life in the barzakh is not the life in this world.
