The Shaykh : He said: "And they judged by it, lying against you" They judged by what? By the intellects.
"Lying against you, and out of arrogance *** on their part, and they did not turn to the Qur'an"
They say: Everything that comes in the Qur'an that contradicts the intellect requires one of two things. Listen to this vile rule: Everything that comes in the Qur'an that contradicts the intellect requires one of two things: either *ta'wil* (figurative interpretation), or *tafwid* (delegation). *Ta'wil* means *tahrif* (distortion of a text's meaning); they distort its meaning. Or *tafwid*; they say, "I do not know." So their rule is built either on aggression or on ignorance. Aggression when they say, "I will interpret it figuratively," and ignorance when they say, "By Allah, we do not know, so we delegate it." And the Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the statement of the people of *tafwid*: "It is one of the worst statements of the people of religious innovation and deviation". Yet you will find many in the books of the later scholars who say that *tafwid* is the doctrine of the people of the Sunnah. Do you understand? This is a wrong statement, because *tafwid* is of two types: *tafwid* of the meaning, and *tafwid* of the reality and the manner. The first is not held by the Salaf or the people of the Sunnah; I mean *tafwid* of the meaning, because they say that the meaning is known. The second is what they hold. So whoever attributes *tafwid* to the people of the Sunnah has erred regarding them and has not understood their doctrine in reality.
