Second: It is said to him: Do you not conceive of Allah as having a Self that does not resemble other Selves?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Second: It is said to him: Do you not conceive of Allah as having a Self that does not resemble other Selves? He will say: Yes" because the representatives of the doctrine of likening Allah to creation acknowledge that the Self of Allah has no counterpart. So it is said: If you conceive of a Self that has no counterpart, then conceive of attributes that have no counterpart. For this reason, we say: So conceive of Him, meaning Allah, as having attributes that do not resemble other attributes, for the statement regarding attributes is like the statement regarding the Self, and whoever distinguishes between the two has contradicted himself. And this is a compelling argument based on what? On what he believes and what he himself says.
"Third: It is said: Do you not observe in the created things that they agree in name but differ in reality and manner? He will say: Yes" How? Where is the intellect? Where are your intellects? If he says, Do you not observe that in the created things there are things that agree in name but differ in attributes, is this conceivable? Is it observed? Are you certain? Good, praise be to Allah.
"He will say: Yes. Then it is said to him: If you conceive of the difference between created things in this regard, why do you not conceive of it between the Creator and the created, even though the difference between the Creator and the created is more apparent and greater? Indeed, similarity is impossible between the Creator and the created, as mentioned previously in the sixth rule of the rules of attributes".
Praise be to Allah. The people of falsehood are defeated and overpowered, for might belongs to whom? To Allah and His Messenger and to the believers. And this is a clear meaning in the refutation: We say, without doubt, you observe in the created things that they agree in name and attribute but differ in reality. Did Allah the Exalted affirm that man is hearing and seeing? Yes. Where?[Al-Insan 76:3].
