What is the point of Abu Buraydah mentioning the hadith, given that if they do not hasten, they will not leave it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... What is the point of Abu Buraydah mentioning the hadith, given that if they do not hasten, they will not leave it?

The Shaykh : He feared that they would be negligent until the last moment. This is one aspect. Another aspect is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) singled out the 'Asr prayer with this punishment, which indicates its importance. If he had cited the statement, "Indeed, Allah says:
Guard the prayers and the middle prayer حافظوا على الصلاة والصلاة الوسطى
," that would also have been sound. But it seems he feared there might be laziness and negligence, so he brought the hadith.
