The Shaykh : Yes, if a person has male or female children who have reached the age of ten, he should wake them up. As for those younger than that, if he wakes them up to pray at the proper time, that is better; otherwise, he is not sinful. However, the preferred course is to wake them up, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Order your children to pray at the age of seven, and beat them for it at the age of ten, and separate them in their beds. مروا أبناءكم بالصلاة لسبع، واضربوهم عليها لعشر، وفرّقوا بينهم في المضاجع
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5
