Benefits of the Hadith Commanding the Ghusl for Friday

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this hadith, there is evidence for the obligation of the ghusl for Friday. Although the apparent practice of al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) suggests that he did not consider it obligatory, as he titled the chapter "The Virtue of Ghusl," the correct view is that it is obligatory. It also indicates that if a person fears that the khutbah or the prayer will be missed before he performs the ghusl, he should not perform the ghusl, because this ghusl is for the prayer and should not cause one to miss the prayer. This ghusl is not for janabah. However, if it is for janabah, he must perform the ghusl even if he misses the khutbah or even the prayer; he must perform the ghusl if it is for janabah. But this one is not for janabah; rather, it is obligatory for Friday, though it is not a condition of the prayer.
By this, we know that if a person intends with his ghusl for Friday to rely on it instead of wudu, it does not suffice for him, because wudu is for hadath, and this ghusl is not for hadath. However, if he performs the usual wudu before the ghusl for Friday and then performs the ghusl, there is no harm. But if he intends with the ghusl alone to replace the wudu, it does not suffice for him due to the lack of proper sequence.
