And nothing is more amazing than the story of the plague, for who was the one who knew it exclusively, to the exclusion of all the Companions? It was Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf. When the Commander of the Faithful, Umar, traveled to Sham and was on the way, he was told that the plague had broken out there. So he stopped and consulted the Companions, and no one knew of anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it except Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, who came and informed him.
