Benefits of the hadith of the brocade jacket that 'Umar purchased.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In it is evidence that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) adorned himself for the festivals, and he also adorned himself for delegations, contrary to some people who do not adorn themselves for delegations. By delegations, it is meant those who have status in society; it is not that whenever anyone comes to you, you go and wear your best clothes. But if the person has status in society, such as a prince, a great scholar, a minister, or the like, then adorning oneself for them is a recommended practice (sunnah) for which one is rewarded, and it is also among the praiseworthy customs among people.
In it is also the adorning for the festival, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of 'Umar.
In this hadith is also the frankness of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the first one, which was of brocade—and brocade is a type of silk fabric:
This dress is for those who have no share (in the Hereafter). إن هذه لباس من لا خلاق له
Sahih al-Bukhari 948
meaning one who has no share in the Hereafter, and they are the disbelievers. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent to him a jacket of silk fabric. So 'Umar came to ask the Messenger: "How did you say yesterday about brocade that it is the garment of one who has no share in the Hereafter, and now you give me a jacket of silk fabric that contains silk?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Sell it and fulfill your needs by it. تبيعها أو تصيب بها حاجتك
Sahih al-Bukhari 948
