Explanation of the Hadith of 'Abdullah, the Mawla of Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He cited two authentic hadiths for this purpose, one of which he narrates with his authentic chain of narration. From 'Abdullah, the Mawla of Asma', who said: "Asma' brought out to me a tunic of Tiyalasiyyah fabric, on which was a piece of silk one shibr in length, and its two openings were bound with it. She said: 'This is the tunic of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He used to wear it for delegations and on Friday.'" This is the first hadith.
The other hadith is also narrated by him with his authentic chain of narration.
From 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, who said: "Umar found a silk garment of Istabraq, so he brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: 'Buy this and wear it on Friday or when delegations come to you.' He (peace be upon him) said:
This is worn by the one who will have no share in the Hereafter. إِنَّمَا يَلبَسُهَا مَن لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ
Sahih al-Bukhari 2612
. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought silk garments—the completion of the hadith—and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought silk garments, so he sent a garment to Umar, a garment to Usamah, and a garment to 'Ali. Umar said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you sent this to me, yet I heard you say about it what you said?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
You can sell it or take care of your needs with it. تَبِيعُهَا ، أَو تَقضِي بها حاجَتَكَ
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 349
. The second hadith ends here."
We return to explaining the strange terms in the first hadith, then we will touch upon it and the second one after explaining the phrases that require explanation. 'Abdullah, the Mawla of Asma'; Asma' is the daughter of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. He says "her Mawla," meaning her slave whom she had freed. 'Abdullah said:
Asma' brought out to me a cloak of Tayalisah أخرجت إليَّ أسماء جبَّةً من طيالسة
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 348b
. Tiyalasiyyah: garments known at that time which they wore. This tunic, Asma' says:
On it was a piece عليها لبنة
, meaning a piece of the length of a shibr, and this length is a shibr, of Dibaaj, meaning of silk. The tunic of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)—Lady Aisha brought it out and showed this tunic to her Mawla, 'Abdullah. She says: "This is the tunic of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) which he used to wear." And he saw on it a "Labbah," meaning a piece of silk one shibr in length. And "its two openings" means its sleeves, like the sleeves of a shirt in our current usage, having an opening. The opening is the "Farj." It appears that in the past, the shirt or tunic had two slits, one in the front and one in the back. Thus, 'Abdullah describes that this tunic had a piece of silk the size of a shibr on it, and this tunic had two "Farj," meaning two slits, one in the front and one in the back.
Bound with it مكفوفان به
We can say they were bound with this piece of silk. So Asma' said to her Mawla, 'Abdullah:
This is the of the cloak of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He used to wear it for delegations and on Jumu'a. هذه جبَّة رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم - كان يلبسها للوفود ويوم الجمعة
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 348b
. This hadith indicates two things. The first thing is related to the previous report where Abu al-'Aliyah said that the Muslims used to adorn themselves when visiting one another. So the author followed that report with this hadith to support the meaning of the previous report, meaning Abu al-'Aliyah did not say something from his own opinion. This is the third hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This hadith states that he had a tunic whose sleeves were bound with a piece of silk the size of a shibr. And the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) did not wear this tunic constantly and always, but it was reserved for receiving delegations who came to him from the far corners of the lands to invite him to Islam. Also, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear this tunic on Friday. So this hadith indicates what Abu al-'Aliyah explicitly stated in the previous report in the last lesson, that they used to recommend adorning themselves when visiting one another. This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who used to adorn himself for the delegations that came to visit him, and he also used to go out on Friday wearing this tunic which had two slits, a front slit and a back slit, with its ends bound on the inside with silk. This is what the hadith indicates first, namely the recommendation of adorning oneself with good clothing to visit one's Muslim brothers or to receive those who might visit him in his home.
The second thing indicated by this hadith is the specification in the following second hadith that I read to you earlier. In it, it is stated that if a man wears silk clothing, he has no share in the Hereafter. In this hadith, there is a severe warning for men who adorn themselves with silk clothing, because it is established in many hadiths that silk is forbidden for men and permissible for women. So it is not permissible for a man, even if it is recommended for him to adorn himself, to adorn himself with what Allah has forbidden him, and among that is wearing silk clothing.
