What is the ruling on fasting on the twenty-seventh of Rajab?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The twenty-seventh of Rajab?

The Shaykh : Likewise, it has no special status regarding fasting, but it has become well-known among many people that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken up to the heavens on the night of the twenty-seventh of the month of Rajab. However, this has no basis. It is not historically established that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken up on that night; rather, the most likely view is that he was taken up in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal. Even if it were established that he was taken up on one of the nights,

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : in Rabi' or otherwise, it is not permissible to invent a celebration for it, because inventing something to honor the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and show respect to him is not commanded by the Shari'ah. It is not permissible, because such a thing is an act of worship, and worship requires a specific designation from the Shari'ah, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected. من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
So whoever invents in the religion of Allah something that is not part of it, it is rejected, and his method is misguided. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire كل بدعة ضلالة، وكل ضلالة في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
Yes.
