The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and messenger, the noblest of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. As for what follows:
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his Sahih, in the Book of the Two Festivals:
Chapter: If one misses the festival prayer, he prays two rak'ahs. This applies to women as well, and to those who are in houses and villages. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
This is our festival, the people of Islam هذا عيدنا أهل الإسلام
. And he ordered Anas ibn Malik, their slave Ibn Abi 'Utbah, to al-Zawiyyah.

The Shaykh : In one version it is "his slave," while in my version it is "their slave." It is correct to say "their slave," meaning the slave of Anas and his family, or "his slave," meaning the slave of Anas.
The reader:
So he gathered his family and his sons, and prayed as the people of the city pray, with their takbir. And 'Ikrimah said: The people of al-Sawad gather for the festival and pray two rak'ahs, just as the imam does. And Ata' said: If one misses the festival prayer, he prays two rak'ahs
.

The Shaykh : There is a difference of opinion among the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) regarding this issue: if a person misses the festival prayer, what should he do?
Some scholars said that he should make it up in its proper form, saying takbir six times in the first rak'ah and five times in the second. Other scholars said that he should make it up with two rak'ahs as usual, without the extra takbir. Some said he should pray it as four rak'ahs, like the midday prayer, by analogy to the Friday prayer, which if missed is made up as four rak'ahs of the midday prayer. And some said that it is not made up. This is the strongest of the opinions: if a person misses the festival prayer, he does not make it up, because the festival prayer was prescribed in this manner, with gathering behind the imam. If it is missed in this manner, it is not made up.
If someone raises an objection and says: "Is not the Friday prayer made up as four rak'ahs of the midday prayer?" We say: Yes, but when the Friday prayer is missed, the time is the time of the midday prayer, so it must be prayed. For this reason, one of the most surprising opinions of the scholars is that of the one who says that if the festival prayer is missed, one prays four rak'ahs by analogy to the Friday prayer. This is a distant analogy and is not valid at all. And what I mentioned, that it is not made up, is the choice of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), and it is the most reasonable. Perhaps Ibn Rajab mentions the difference of opinion in this issue.
One with the first opening and one with the second opening. It is the norm that Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) leans toward investigating the issue from the perspective of jurisprudence.
The reciter: Shall we recite, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes. From the beginning of the chapter. The chapter: If one misses the festival prayer.
